Iridescent

Cooperative puzzle game for two players who collect and mix colours to get past obstacles.

Iridescent title screen with two characters

About the project

A 3D split-screen puzzle platformer for two players, made by a team of three for the Game Development course at FIIT STU in 2022. Students from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava contributed 3D models.

Each player carries a colour. Players collect colours in the level, mix them into new ones and use them on obstacles that only react to a certain colour, so most puzzles need both players working together. A playthrough takes about half an hour.

I programmed most of the obstacle and interaction system and built parts of the levels. The game is released on itch.io for the browser, Windows, macOS and Linux.

What you can try

  • Local co-op on one screen, with keyboard or Xbox and PlayStation controllers
  • Colour mixing: combine collected colours to unlock obstacles that need a new one
  • Doors, buttons, levers, shadow blocks and destructible walls that react to colour

Highlights

  • Push buttons, timed buttons and levers that only work with the right colour, with weight limits so a player or a cube can hold them down
  • Doors linked to any number of buttons, and one button able to open several doors
  • Coloured doors that only a player of the same colour can pass, shadow blocks on a timer and destructible obstacles, all as reusable prefabs
  • Parts of the first two levels, including checkpoints, and fixes to jumping and collisions
